That man, that precious dear man, I was privileged to call my daddy also. A year has passed so slowly and yet so quickly since he was called to Glory. Yes, he is in Glory worshiping his Savior! I will see him too some day but boy do I miss him here. He would love the garden as it is full bloom now. The roses in their second cycle bloom. He loved them. He was a man that would take time to smell the roses! He would marvel at the orange tree heavy laden with it's bounty of "California gold", as he would say. He loved God's creation, he loved the woman God created for him, he loved his 5 girls and if you were to talk with him if only for a short while, he'd let you know that love. But most of all he loved and honored God. Thank you daddy for the love you freely expressed in so many many ways. I miss you and wish I could shave that wonderful face just one more time...

Thanks Jake for posting this tribute to my amazing daddy. I just shake my head that a whole year has passed since He "jumped the great boa" and moved to His heavenly home. I love the memory also of seeing him in his big red chair reading God's word. He lived it day in and day out and we were blessed to have a dad that loved my momma more than life itself. Knowing that we will see him again in glory eases the pain of our loss. I love you daddy, my little daddy!

Jake, thank you so much for sharing this. It is such an important reminder for everyone who works or volunteers or "does [fill in the blank]" for their families and to give our children a better life. "THEY FOLLOW ME…and I pray that I will lead them well and to the heart of Jesus" Ultimately time and authentic connection and building a strong spiritual foundation is what will bring them a better life.

I find this so important for myself as I'm involved in the leadership of a nonprofit designed as an outreach to teens. How easy it is to worry about how many Twitter followers when the followers in my own home go ignored, taken for granted. How much time do we spend connecting and listening and interacting with FB friends when we're too busy for why two kids are fighting over a toy?

I'm blessed to have a connection with my eldest son who is 16 that I can involve him in this outreach and have his valuable input and ideas. After all, how can we authentically minister and connect with other teens when we're not even connected with our own?
